Frequently Asked Questions

Common Appliance Problems & Solutions

Understanding why an appliance is failing can help you decide on the next steps. Below are common problems we encounter, their likely causes, and potential solutions.

Refrigerator Repair

Problem: The refrigerator is not cooling properly.

Why it's a concern: A fridge that can't stay below 40°F (4°C) puts your food at risk of spoilage. This should be addressed immediately.

Common Causes: Dirty condenser coils, a faulty thermostat, low refrigerant, or control board failure.

Solution: While you can clean the coils, diagnosing thermostats, control boards, or refrigerant leaks is complex and best left to a technician.

Problem: The water dispenser is not working.

Common Causes: The most common culprits are a clogged water filter, a frozen water line, or a faulty water inlet valve.

Solution: First, replace the water filter. If that fails, try gently thawing the water line. If the problem persists, the inlet valve likely requires a professional.

Washing Machine Repair

Problem: The washer's front-load door is locked, and it won't drain or spin.

Why it's a concern: This leaves you with a machine full of water and trapped laundry. Washers will not spin if they cannot drain properly.

Common Cause: The most frequent cause is a clogged drain pump filter, usually blocked by small items left in pockets.

Solution: Many front-loaders have a small access door at the bottom. Place a pan and towels underneath before opening it to clear any debris. If the problem persists, the drain pump may have failed.

Dryer Repair

Problem: The dryer takes too long to dry or gets excessively hot.

Why it's a concern: This indicates poor airflow, which wastes energy and is a serious fire hazard.

Common Cause: The issue is almost always a buildup of flammable lint in the vent pipe running from the dryer to the outside of your home.

Solution: The entire dryer vent system must be thoroughly cleaned. A professional service ensures the entire line is clear, eliminating a major fire risk.

Oven, Stove, & Range Repair

Problem: My oven, stove, or range is malfunctioning.

Why it's a concern: These are complex appliances with high-power electrical systems and sometimes natural gas. DIY repairs are extremely dangerous.

Solution: For issues like a burner not heating, inaccurate temperature, or an unresponsive control panel, do not attempt to fix it yourself. Contact a qualified technician immediately.
